Saarland impresses:
Chinese high-tech company invests up to two billion euros in two Saarland production sites – with SHS as the developer

After reviewing more than 30 regions of Europe, the company SVOLT Energy Technology has chosen Saarland as the perfect production site for its battery cells, modules and packs for electric vehicles and high-voltage batteries. Kai-Uwe Wollenhaupt (President of SVOLT Europe & Vice-President of SVOLT Energy Technology), Prime Minister of Saarland Tobias Hans, and Minister of Economic Affairs Anke Rehlinger announced this decision at a joint press conference at the State Chancellery on Tuesday 17 November.

At the Überherrn site, a cell factory will be constructed that is ground-breaking for the automotive region of Saarland with up to 24 GWh of capacity, and Eiweiler (Heusweiler) will gain a module and pack factory.

SVOLT plans to create up to 2,000 jobs in total across the two sites. Up to two billion euros are expected to be invested.
SHS Strukturholding Saar has been commissioned to construct and provide turnkey delivery of both factories. CEO of SHS and gwSaar Thomas Schuck is delighted about the confidence shown in the holding company as an ‘ideal partner able to open doors to international investors from all sectors when it comes to activities on the German market’.
